Lost Vegas: Vanguard

May 28, 2009

During the boom years, no place in America boomed more than Las Vegas. But when the economy collapsed, Vegas fell hard. Laura Ling tours the wreckage of Sin City, from unemployed strippers and half-built, abandoned casino projects, to hospitals turning away cancer patients and ambulances, to one of the few remaining boom industries–evicting people.

    I didn’t say they …
I didn’t say they know everything about the property. But they if they waited a ing year to foreclose, they can have the fat go to the property and put his little sticker on the door if it is unoccupied, and if it is occupied with a renter, give them a 10 day notice to vacate, stupid. Always taking the side of big business and the with peoples lives: dumb elephant. Hope you fall on hard times once. My Republican neighbor talked like you, then lost his job. I laughed my off

    Again. Pro-growth …
Again. Pro-growth works. people don’t. Does the availability of drugs “enable” people to take them or is it the individual’s decision to take the drugs? Do cars that can go faster than the speed limit “enable” people to speed or is that the decision of the person driving the car?

Pro-growth policies aren’t greedy. people are greedy.

I agree that Fannie and Freddie should be abolished.

    The bubble was …
The bubble was fueled by pro-growth policies that enabled massive fraud via cheap money and fradulent investment vehicles like CDOs and fraudulent loan products like Alt-A, OptionARMs and zero down loans.

Fannie and Freddie should be abolished and the whole concept of promoting “housing” should be relegated to the dustbin of history.

    Pro-growth works. …
Pro-growth works. People don’t. The difference between pro-growth policies and “progressive” policies is that there is no historical evidence of “progressive” policies ever succeeding while pro-growth policies do show a history of success (albeit temporary success).

    It’s obvious that …
It’s obvious that wisdaniel has no clue about the functions of a bank or lender. They do NOT know everything about the property. If it’s rented they don’t know unless the owner has noted that fact. And I’m sure he’ll suggest the bank or lender go investigate. Right. Hundreds or thousands of properties make it impossible for the lenders to do that. His anger needs to be directed to the responsible party…the useless piece of owner, not the lender.

“This fat constable from Nevada is no different from a Gestapo agent.”

If he didn’t do it, SOMEONE ELSE would. Because they’d fire him. Get a clue, it’s a the law. As a renter, you have no guarantees. You know that going in. If you saved enough, you’ll be fine.

I agree. No-one ever said he had to do THAT job though.

    like the other …
like the other comments below, our country is dying because we consume so much and produce almost nothing…..just look at all our university graduates over the past few years: lawyers, bankers, consultants etc…..all basically high paid paper shufflers who don’t make ANYTHING of value….other jobs where people actually make useful stuff (i.e. the engineers, scientists, etc.) have gone to other countries.

  16. wisdaniel Says:

    Those POOR renters. …
Those POOR renters. These ing foreclosures sit on the desks of banks for up to a year, and then they give renters 10 minutes notice. That is ed. And the fat feels bad my . You can see he loves his job.

    lol, you’re so …
lol, you’re so clueless. Since Reaganomics, the different administratios have encouraged (through fiscal and other policies) consumerism. The banks helped by giving out money to people who couldn’t be trusted and hence the disaster. If America had protected its blue collar workers, avoiding outsourcing of jobs among other things, the US industry would be much stronger today.

  24. kieranmullen2 Says:

    Did you watch the …
Did you watch the video? Is has nothing to do with Bush and everythong to do with the way the US economy is mainly consumer driven. (We mainly consume products and do not make them)
